Driving the Twin Transition: The Impact and Multidisciplinary Scope of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet “GRAST” Project

The Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module “Green Transition and Sustainability” (GRAST) at İstanbul Gedik University continues its active implementation, serving as a core platform for interdisciplinary education and industry-academia synergy. Conceived in alignment with the European Union’s target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and the strategic directives of the European Green Deal, the GRAST initiative merges sustainable energy systems, advanced manufacturing technologies, robotics, and environmental science. The program focuses on the “twin transition”—the intersection of green and digital transformations—equipping students, researchers, and industry leaders with actionable knowledge on European sustainability directives. As a tangible output of this framework, a technical seminar organized jointly by the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Career and Guidance Center was successfully held with valuable contributions from İmak Gearbox (İmak Redüktör). Demonstrating the project’s broad reach, the event drew strong interest from diverse fields, ranging from engineering to sports sciences. Through flexible course modules offered in autumn, spring, and summer terms alongside such specialized industrial seminars, the GRAST Project bridges academic research with practical application, continuing to build strong international networks and advance sustainable practices across sectors.

GRAST Spring Semester 2026 Successfully Completed with Student Project Presentations

GRAST’s Spring Semester was successfully completed with a final project presentation event that brought together students. Throughout the semester, students actively participated in courses and practical activities focusing on advanced manufacturing technologies, digital transformation, sustainability and Industry 4.0 applications. During the final presentations, students showcased the projects they had developed by applying the knowledge and skills gained throughout the semester. The presentations covered a wide range of topics related to innovative engineering solutions, smart manufacturing systems, automation technologies, sustainable production approaches and emerging policies. Students demonstrated their ability to analyze real-world challenges, develop creative solutions and effectively communicate their technical findings. The project presentations provided an important opportunity for students to strengthen their problem-solving, teamwork, research and presentation skills while gaining practical experience in addressing contemporary industrial and technological challenges. The successful completion of the Spring Semester marks another important milestone for the GRAST project in promoting innovation-oriented education and strengthening the connection between academic learning and industrial practice. The semester’s achievements reflect the commitment of both students and instructors to fostering technological competence, creativity and sustainable development perspectives among future professionals.
